Our mic of choice for the last couple of years has been the Sennheiser ME66 with the K6 powering module. We use it with the Canon XH-A1 because of it small size, price and overall great performance. Its cardioid polar pattern allows for max pick-up sounds at the front of the mic. Yet it is powered by a standard AA battery. It is truly very versatile and a workhorse.
